I don't agree with the earlier poster that Stuy was clearly a better caliber student because of all the NM Finalists. By definition they are the best test takers in the city, since that is all you need to get in there. Don't get me wrong, Stuy is amazing, but it doesn't mean the kids are the most critical thinkers or best writers. They are the best test takers for sure so they got into Stuy and do well on the PSAT. [ - ] WWYD? I was laid off from my job last year. I was very fortunate that I had close relationships with people who I had worked with/for in the past, and within a week of my layoff, I had contracts signed with 3 clients, together slightly exceeding my previous salary. Since then, I have successfully been able to maintain those contracts and have brought on a 4th client (I have more leads in the pipeline but honestly cannot bring on additional work at this point). Even still, DH will not stop pressuring me to "go back to work", despite the fact that 1) I DO WORK, 2) I make more now than I did working for someone else and 3) I am a lot happier. I am really starting to resent this pressure because it feels like there is no reason for it other than the fact that he resents that I get to "sit at home" all day (and work) while he's slaving away at his office. 17 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

^ He's very conflict-averse so having productive discussions is difficult, but he cites "stability" as a concern. But the whole reason I am working for myself now is because I had the rug pulled from under me by an employer, so obviously working for someone else full-time is not immune to stability problems. At least now, if one client ends our contract, I still have 3 others. [ Reply | More ]

I have been approached with several job offers and have turned them all down. A few of them were interesting, but the salary ranges given were more than I made at my last job, but less than I make right now. Plus I would lose the flexibility I enjoy right now. Not all of them. But even those who do want to stay young still age like the rest of us. Trust me, it wasn't that long ago that I was the 22 year old at the club laughing with my friends at the gross old guys, taking hundreds of dollars worth of drinks from them with no intention of ever letting them so much as touch me. I gave one or two my number and would laugh at their creepy, out of touch old person texts before blocking them. [ Reply | More ]

Women feel responsible for everything: kids' academics, family happiness, all the daily crap of life from making sure grocery shopping is done to registering for summer camp. Most middle class and above women manage the logistics of family life, as well as maintaining the emotional balance at home. My DH is a great husband and father, but if you asked him how we are spending the summer, he'd look at your totally clueless. [ Reply | More ]

I think in a small or big way men want kids more than women do. It is a male trait to be better than other men. No better way to prove this than to produce the most, the strongest and most beautiful children. This is why they prefer beauty, youth and health in a mate. Having the most attractive, healthy mate will produce the best children. Too bad the healthiest and most beautiful women want nothing to do with you. You are no alpha male. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Divorce property question... I have consulted with but not yet retained a lawyer so I'm asking here first. I am the trustee of a trust that owns property passed down from my grandfather. I plan on either renting it out or selling it, but it needs a renovation first.
