Doesn't work like that. A job is not a 'right'. A job is a job. His 25M job is in existence as much as a 30K job. What can happen is that a person with a 25M comp plan should have had a built in clause about being paid less if the company is not doing well. [ Reply | More ]

DC is two and a few months (DD, can’t speak for boys). Toys she uses every day – art supplies (stickers, glue, construction paper, crayons, sidewalk chalk), legos, blocks, dolls with pajamas and various outfits you can put them in (I have to help), plates, bowls, strollers, and bottles for the dolls, tea set that goes in the bathtub if you want it to, Melissa and Doug pizza and ice cream cake puzzles. And here's another reason why we moved out of public schools to private - people who are so cheap that they won't even send a box of tissues in with their kid and expect others to subsidize their good education. In the good publics you'll find many of the same people donating the majority of time and money and most of the big complainers are the ones who never support the school. Yes, some people really can't pay much, but everyone can contribute something - $100 for the year for pencils, paper towels, crayons, paper, etc works out to 56 cents/day for your kid's education. If it's not worth that much to you then give up your spot in a good school to someone who cares a little more and will support the school going forward. [ Reply | More ]

We do all these small things (ticket sales, field trips, supplies, volunteering, etc.) We even buy some gift wrap. The only thing we cannot do is the annual fundraiser that asks for close to $1000. We gave a hundred. Sorry, but that's all we can do and I know there are so many families in DC's class who won't have a problem to give the asked amount and some more. [ Reply | More ]

yes - but it doesn't always feel that way; esp. because we pay for a private bus and they ask for a large donation from each family - we simply can NOT do it this year - so I am comitting to doing all of the small things - fundraisers - $20 - $50 at a atime is fine, but the large lump sum is just not happening this year. Also i can't volunteer a lot of time but will do what i can - the easier stuff for me is baking, stuff i can do at night. i agree with earlier post that it is exhausting. [ Reply | More ]

OP - it was a little easier when he was in his crib, b/c then he'd happily talk to himself for up to 30 minutes or so before we had to get him - now he's out of bed and going full speed immediately. I've somewhat adjusted to the time as well, but it is challenging because my job frequently requires that I work into the late evening so the couple hours of missed sleep in the a.m. is sorely missed! If you are still on, here is a list of daycares. I know people happy at Imagine on 97th, both House of Little People locations, PreSchool of America on 94th and Lex, and hear Elizabeth Seton is wonderful. I am at one of The House of Little People locations. The facilities are small, but the kids go out twice a day weather permitting and the people in the nursery school room are thrilled with the “curriculum.” It’s very homey and serve breakfast, hot lunch, provide diapers --- there’s nothing left for you to do. The parents are very nice. People on UB rave about CADS (Children’s all Day School). At CADS, you have to apply for the next year, but you never know with these things. I wish I had toured for comparisons sake but mine is so much cheaper. [ Reply | More ]

--- I have heard eh things about Wee Care in the 80s. On the UWS I know of someone happy at Basic Trust, and my friend liked Manhattan Kids Club near Union Square but ended up somewhere else. If you did that you could live near Augustus Gardens school or PS116, both strong public options. Another family used Trinity Day Care downtown and really liked it. That could be near PS234 or PS89, both good public options one day. [ Reply | More ]

We are at Preschool of America on Lex and so far (since September)we couldn't be happier! My daughter is in the infant room and has made a fabulous adjustment. The teachers are fantastic, and the new director has already made dramatic changes (for the positive) and things are going great. I highly recommend it!!!
