yes- rates vary, but most are $500 per night plus. Dont be surprised if you dont get a room, there is usually a waitlist for them [ Reply | More ]

yes, this is the case but I think SLR is among the most expensive. i think cornell is about $500/night. my advice is CLOROX WIPES - shared room = shared bathroom. [ Reply | More ]

Yikes! I had a private room at SLR about 3 years ago after c-section. I thought it was only 250 per night. I loved that hospital (if you can love one) and I thought the nurses were fabulous and loved my doctors. If I were in the city I'd do it again regardless if price. (And we don't have money to burn.) Do either you or DH have a flexspend acct. with your insurance? YOu may be able to get reimbursed. [ Reply | More ]

op-i heard...urghh. do you know what they cover at that stage at G&T compared to regular schools? are private schools much better than the better public schools (curriculum wise) ? i guess it get's easier to get them in in 6th right ? [ Reply | More ]

why ugh? You are moving to NY. Just make sure you move into a good school zone and you are set. There is no real need for a G&T, is there? [ Reply | More ]

I disagree. Many of the classes aren't officially full as K classes ranged from 20 to 22 in many schools and DOE max is 28. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with this. With the way the children are assigned to G&T programs now there will always be plenty of seats at least for 1st grade. AFAIK the DOE even promises that a qualified 1st grader will be guaranteed a G&T spot. [ Reply | More ]

if you are talking public school you have to talk to each school. some school have to follow a city/state mandated curriculum. where others because of high scores follow their own written curriculum. [ Reply | More ]

np: I thought all publics, regardless of whether they're citywide or district G&T, had to follow the NYS curriculum. The G&Ts can supplement, but they're following the state curriculum at the same time. At least that's what I thought. [ Reply | More ]

The NYS Standards are vague and general (and in math, for exaample, very low). There is no one set curriculum to follow. [ Reply | More ]

No, there's Everyday Math/Connected? Math, TERC, and Singapore Math, to name a few. But they all have to take the NY Statewide Test. If topics on the test are not part of the regular curriculum, the school will cover them before the test. [ Reply | More ]

Empowerment schools do have the right to alter the curriculum and so do to some extent, but no NYC DOE school has the resources to build their own curriculum, so they work with what the district gives them for the most part. [ Reply | More ]

just an FYI - you may be at somewhat of an advantage by moving - call, call and call and plead your case - i honestly believe they are pretty open to really working with new families. if you are interested in private - call the parent's league and see what they advise - but if you have a gifted child I would actually try to work the public system and get them in. g/l. [ - ] Ok. Weird. I went to ob today for my 2nd appt of the pregnancy. Doctor checks me, says all looks good, says blood work from last time looks good, and then goes, "so, when did you finish your antibiotics?" I said, "I didn't take any antibiotics." She freezes, and looks at me, and says, "You didn't get the letter we sent you? It turns out you had a UTI last visit." Ummmm...NOOOO. I did not get a letter. Why would they send me a letter telling me I had a UTI? No phone call? I never experienced any symptoms, so I never even thought this was a possibility. Seemed really odd to me. I figure I'll give the office another chance, but if something like this happens again, I may have to find a new ob! 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

that is awful. a letter, for a UTI? I have had a UTI since I became pregnant and begged drs to check. Interview visit they finally did so I got antibiotics 2 months later, still had it next appt asked them to check again, waited a week for results and had to call them - "oh you still have it, we'll call in your prescription" yes you will and I will be changing ob. Only ever saw two new ob drs anyway and appointment staff treated me horrible. I've been a gyn patient for 10 years and had my first child with them. Really disappointed and will miss my gyn/ob but you have to do what you have to do [ Reply | More ]

I was misdiagnosed with gestational diabetes (and, actually, a very bad case of type 2 diabetes). Did 3 hr at same time as 5 or 6 other women. Vials or label or something ended up swapped. Only figured it out after dietitian told me that with my numbers I wouldn't be able to eat fruit in the morning--yet when I did, I had no problems. Never any problems. Blood sugar always totally normal--no matter what I ate. This went on for a month. Redid 3 hour (fun) and passed easily. No one ever apologized, either. [ Reply | More ]
