[ - ] Saw a friend yesterday who is getting divorced. She was married ten years and has three kids. They are trying to settle things between themselves, rather than fighting it out in court. But her DH, who is very wealthy, wants to give her a fraction of the money she should get. I am afrid she might take the deal because he is wearing her down and she just wants to get the whole thing over with, instead of taking him to court. Has anyone been through this? What advice would you give her? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

My MIL has the same attitude. She was depressed and just wanted to get it over with, and didn't negotiate hard enough. Now that she is happy again and remarried, she's bitter about it. Tell her to do it for her kids, if not for herself. [ Reply | More ]

I think that unless there is a prenup everything is 50-50. She needs to get a lawyer even if it isnt' a big battle. She might be entitled to things that are fairly easy for her. [ Reply | More ]

50-50 for assets earned during marriage, but not for assets either party owned before. So if her DH has family money it may well be off limits (or most of it anyway). [ Reply | More ]

maybe but still in 10 years he may have earned a lot and she may be entitled to half the house...If he is wealthy they may have bought an expensive house together whil married and she may be entitled to half of that. [ Reply | More ]

She needs a good lawyer to sort it all out, OP should strongly advice her to get one if she doesn't have one already. Settling things themselves is foolish in this situation. [ Reply | More ]

Should be 50-50, but the value of things still need to be negotiated. MIL got the house but let them overvalue it and got scr**ed when she sold it. [ Reply | More ]

, eat fruit-as much as you want-until your lunchtime-make your lunch a 4-6oz serving of lean protein w/ a raw or steamed side, i.e. arugula, spinach, onions, cress w/balsamic or lemon juice and very little or no oil. Make your afternoon snack Oqatmeal or cream of wheat made w/water or skim milk-or better yet a shake from frozen berries, bananas, green stuff(magma, dehydrated veg protein) and rice milk. Get your heart rate up for 30 min each day and hydrate heavily w/water. Avoid lifting or weight resistance but don't quit going aerobic. Avoid salt and refined sugar. [ Reply | More ]
