manhattan or the boros? i think you could totally do it on $100K in the boros, esp is that's 1 income, so there's no or minimal childcare expenses. MUCH harder in manhattan or if that's $100K for 2 incomes and needing childcare for 2 dcs. unless of course there's some type of housing deal - cheap rent, very small mortgage, etc. [ Reply | More ]

We have none of the mitigating housing factors (rent control or other deal), only $40K to put down and make $80K annually. Our rent right now is $2400 (3BR walk-up in outer borough) and I really think we have to leave the city. Staying feels like slow financial suicide. We can't save anything for college or retirement like this and we're always living above our means. [ Reply | More ]

We're facing this decision for this fall. We are so thrilled with our zoned school, all of #1's friends are in the neighborhood, we see families from school all the time. The whole process for us last year was so frustrating and disheartening I can't believe we'd do it again. But on the other hand, like another poster said, shouldn't we give #2 the same chance? Or is it that I hate failure and I just need to feed my ego and get some accepts? I think I'm having PTSD all over again this week just reading these posts and reliving everything. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Can anyone recommend a daycamp (he will be going into kindergarten) in the city-east side midtown/vilage area? or if the camp has transportation that would work too. Thanx 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] DD has been accepted at a preschool (FC, we are supposed to commit before other schools notify). I should withdraw apps from other eight schools, right? I know it's bad, but I am curious to see where else she might be accepted... thoughts? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

what do you need an opinion about? whether you should do the right thing and free spots or do the wrong thing so you can feel flattered by the schools that accept your dc? that's up to you. [ Reply | More ]
