[ - ] what is the proper ettiquete: when someone stops by to visit a new baby and brings a gift do you open it asap while they are there or wait until they leave? what if there are other people visiting as well? don't want to seem un-enthused or ungrateful.... 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I usually waited to open later unless they seemed to really want me to open it right there and then. When I had visitors I was so busy making sure they were happy (not to mention my newborn) that I wouldn't of had time to sit down and ooo&ahhh over gifts! [ Reply | More ]

Ditto. I don't think it is rude to wait till later and write a thank you note. I do, on the other hand, think it is rude for a guest to demand you open their gift immediately or in front of other people who might not have brought gifts. [ Reply | More ]

I think if someone comes to visit you and the baby and brings a gift, you should open it. Even if someone else is there. It isn't like its a child's birthday party where 16 little tykes are squirming. [ Reply | More ]

I like that it folds up so easily and that I will eventually be able to use it for runs with the baby. I'm worried though that it's going to be too big for running errands in NYC. Anyone use this as a primary stroller and like or dislike it? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I do but not for errands and stuff, just for walking older kids to school and zoo trips and such. If you get the revolution (with the rotating front wheel) it is very easy to maneuver (even the double) so I imagine it would be fine for most things. Oh and I never used the carseat attachment. Bought a snuzzler and put the seat on full recline and my baby was fine in there from 1 week on. [ Reply | More ]

Hi Everyone, I hope you won't mind this post. I am writing in regards to my doctoral dissertation research on the effect of pregnancy and motherhood on the lives of women. With your much needed help, I would like to learn more about the process of becoming a mother. My online survey is easy to take and will take only 30-60min of your time now and again after you give birth. It is an opportunity to reflect on your experience and hopefully guide others in their path. If you are a new, first-time pregnant mother, or are starting again, and in your 2nd or 3rd trimester, please consider participating. For more information and the survey: www.headandbelly.org click on: "The Motherhood Project" headandbelly@gmail.com p.s. please contact me if you are having any technical difficulties - I want to ensure your time is well spent p.p.s. please feel free to pass on the link to others. ita. nobody has a real idea of what parenting involves before we are parents. the vast majority of us rise to the challenge just fine. [ Reply | More ]

And the other thing is that, if she's really worried about her "biological clock," I can only imagine how hurtful it would be to have her friend who is married with kids (I'm assuming you are) come in with some sense of superiority and say, "Hey, I know you couldn't find the right person yet, but I also don't think you can handle being a parent-- even if you do it on your own." So mean. Honestly, you sound like the kind of person who was a mean girl, and still is. [ Reply | More ]

I posted above. Agreed. Maybe this is a fake post. No one is this clueless about the feelings of other human beings, are they? [ Reply | More ]

I seriously doubt the op of this message was intentionally being mean. She was simply telling the truth about how she feels although if I were her I would keep my mouth shut about her thoughts except to simply say how much work YOU found having kids to be (say nothing about how you think she would feel because quite honestly you have no idea how she would react to having a child). I was one of those self absorbed women but found that having a kid really centered me and grounded me. JMO. [ Reply | More ]

You'd be surprised what people can do when they have no other choice! I really was one of those self absorbed bitches who wouldn't do anything unless I was getting something out of it, having my dc totally changed me, 100%. I hope you're friend does too. [ Reply | More ]

OP here. I can never get the message tone correct here.. let me say that this person is VERY SELF ABSORBED and is interested in having her own child for egotistical reasons. Adoption has never been an issue as she wants a mini-her around. This person runs from therapy session to therapy session and constantly tests the limits of her friendships by placing requests on her friends which go above and beyond the bounds of normalcy. I truly think she's not going to be handle it.... [ Reply | More ]

np This post ALSO makes you sound like an a-hole. If this person is SO awful, drop her--don't bother giving her your unsolicited opinion about how she'd be a shitty mom. [ Reply | More ]

I have never "dropped" a friend, but I don't think I'm going to have the energy to support her if she goes down this road. Amusing that you think I sound like an a-hole. [ Reply | More ]

This person runs from therapy to therapy session and constantly tests the limits of her friendships..." Wow. You sound like such a loyal friend. You'd be kinder to drop her than to continue the charade that you actually like her. And I do think you sound like an a-hole. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, I think you should MYOB. You have no idea if she can rise to the occasion. Most people don't really understand what parenting entails until they do it. [ Reply | More ]

I totally agree, MYOB. I have a friend like this and I find that whenever I offer advice of any kind--and nothing as serious as deciding to have a child--she gets hugely offended. [ Reply | More ]

Funny... I have to close it down quickly when he sees me on here. He starts ranting about how my brain is rotting on here and these posts are the stupidest things he has ever seen. So embarrassing to be caught on here (cuz a big part of me knows he's so right!) . UB is a light diversion after a day of work.... [ Reply | More ]
