thank you! i tried to have one big activity every day. always in the morning. then we have rest time, then either playing outside or watching tv, then supper then bed. one day we went to the playground, one day visited relatives, one day to the library, one day to the museum. i'm quite exhausted from it but dcs had a good time. and i'm planning a huge treat for myself with all the money i'm saving. [ - ] I am so livid. Please help me know if I am in the right here. Ds's daycare center announced in May their tuition rates would stay the same for the upcoming school year. Then, in an email in the beginning of August, announced that they would raise afterschool rates hugely--net effect on us of an additional $200-300 per month. I can't afford it. I need to put him somewhere new, they want TWO MONTHS tuition for the "late notice" PLUS my deposit. Who's right here and what should I do? 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have a spot at another preschool but there's no way I can pay two schools at the same time even for two months. If I'm forced to stay because I owe for the months, I'll likely lose the other spot entirely. [ Reply | More ]

i'd do a couple of things. i'd try to get in touch with as many other parents as you can and see if you can approach the daycare as a group. also, if you can hold off on your spot at the new daycare i'd tell the old daycare that you'll stay there for a month (or two), paying the new rates but that you aren't going to pay for when you aren't sending your dc and you definitely want your deposit back. All of the camps like that (Ramapo, Ramaquoi (sp), Pierce, Hillard, Mohawk) are very sports oriented for the boys, and they all separate the boys and girls. Ramapo is fairly sports oriented, but they have lots of other activities that aren't team sports (arts and crafts, ropes, cooking, horses). Its not done in a competitive way. Poster from below. Ignore this woman who is flaming you, in my day ethical was such a joke no one paid any attention. Never knew a single person from that school. I still don't know what 'fieldston lower' is though I assume it the elementary portion of that jappy school up north [ Reply | More ]

WOW. Jappy is the last word I would use to describe Fieldston. Crunchy, maybe, not jappy. Now Riverdale, on the other hand . . . [ Reply | More ]

I just did a search on EC and 1696 posts come up, so the OP clearly is not out of line in using that abbreviation. [ Reply | More ]

maybe not for this board, but that doesn't mean everyone knows what it means! ethical culture is not on everyone's radar the way other schools are [ Reply | More ]

this was my guess, as well. I'd take the commission. They're corrupt technocrats, but at least more competent than the corrupt technocrats in Florida [ Reply | More ]

sorry, I thought I was using well known shorthand. Ethical Culture and Fieldston Lower. But, then again, I would think that anyone who has an opinion on the topic is probably familiar with the shorthand. [ Reply | More ]

there was a discussion of EC and FL and comparison yesterday. I agree with the poster who said that EC building was the noisiest of all the schools we toured and FL was very quiet. More Westchester/Riverdale families at FL. I think the curriculum is the same at both. [ Reply | More ]
