She is going to the doctor to figure things out when she gets in town (lives with my ex-husband). Any ideas what could be causing this though? Is it normal to have inconsistent periods until early twenties? Could this lead to fertility issues in her future? 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I posted on another thread, I'm the one with fibroids - no problem for me. You will just have to wait and see what the doctor says, I know (I'm a mom too) that is hard, but go clean out a closet or something to keep your mind occupied until you find out what is going on. you are just finding out about this? i dont know exactly what dr will do, but internal exam for sure, sometimes dr put on bc pills to 'regulate' things, also dark brown blood means its old - probably because its not coming out of her every month. one person i know who had that, had fibroid issues, but she was 35-ish. you'll have to talk to a competent doctor about these treatments. I was given the option of going on medication, etc, but decided against it because it basically throws your body into temporary menopause. the surgery was pretty non-invasive for the most part. i can tell you that i and several other moms i know with fibroids will not go on the pill because of what happened to us when we did. This sounds like PCOS. I am a doctor, and I have PCOS. Not everyone with PCOS has all the "classic" symptoms like excess hair, obesity, acne. I am slightly heavy, but no problems with excess hair. I knew a girl in my medical school class who was Korean and super skiiny, no acne, had PCOS. the main thing is the missed periods. The only way to know for sure is to get bloodwork done looking at the hormone levels and/or a transvaginal ultrasound to see if there are cysts on the ovaries. If you can't get a workup from a regular gyn (not all of them recognize PCOS easily) go to a reproductive endocrinologist. [ Reply | More ]

it doesn't matter if she thinks you are crazy. she should have nothing to hide. and if it makes you feel better, you should do it. signed, someone who doesn't even know her nanny's last name. [ Reply | More ]

Are you seriously wondering what to do? Entertain kids, attempt to do chores, shower, excercise, put kids down for naps - clean house, prep dinner, laundry - take kids to park, come home, make dinner, feed kids dinner, clean up dinner, bathe kids, put kids to bed, attempt to relax and spend qt with dh. Go to bed, start over at 7am. [ Reply | More ]

I have a 2.5yo and a 6.5yo and it's summer now so I break things up in parts of day. AM, Lunch time, afternoon, evening... Go out in AM or Afternoon and do an activity outside the house. Have lunch or dinner out if possible... we do lots of picnics too. We are in burbs but near a city so we have lots of memberships at botanical gardens, zoo, children's museum, aqaurium. We also love to camp, hike, swim. So, plan some things but not overdone so you're not too busy - everyone will be exhausted if you do that. [ Reply | More ]

And if you have a PT nanny use the time that she's there to do your own stuff: clean out closets, finally put together old photo albums. Go through kids closets and pack away/donate anything that no longer fits them. [ Reply | More ]
