I suggested that to my MIL and she thought it was more related to anxiety/procrastination. [ Reply | More ]

procrastination is often a symptom of ADD. many times someone can have both ADD and anxiety (also becoming anxious because of all of the things one is putting off and not dealing with). just suggesting this because, if this is his situation, he might just end up feeling worse about himself if he tries to do some program/treatment that doesn't address any underlying brain chemistry imbalance. i'm chronically late too! i have an absolute aversion to being anywhere early - so i risk it and end up running late all the time... although i don't think i have any add problems (went through many years of schooling and a lot of standardized testing, not sure if having deficit in attention would enable me to do that)... dh hates it that we're always late. but i can't stand being at a place early!! no anxiety problems either... But so many ppl seem to want their kids to go to this school or that school because they are already planning on heir kid going to Harvard or Yale. Why is this? Of course, one should support her dc and try to give them the best in life. However, isn't planning your dc's Ivy league education when they are only 5 a bit much? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Because ppl are putting so much pressure on themselves and their children by having them tested for all of these "great" schools. From my impression, many of these parents are so concerned about their dc's K school because they want their dc to get into a IL school. [ Reply | More ]

First of all, I do appreciate my life. Secondly, she was acting like she was poor and I know for a fact that their HHI is way more than mine or the other mom. She was just vicious and accusing. The napping isn't your problem..sleep begets sleep. Both of mine had late naps and still slep throught the night...one needed sleep training at 7.5 mos and one slept through on her own at 6 weeks. Good Luck. What you have going on is pure torture....sleep deprivation is used for torture and brain washing. I strongly, strongly suggest CIO for the middle of the night (you can still put her in bed asleep if you like ,at this point) Don't go in, just let her cry. If you go in , you teach her that if she cries for 20 minutes you come fetch her. So......stay in your bed. Five days, you and she will be much happier! [ Reply | More ]

I would have some play time with dc and then get the bath started around 8:15 or so. give 15 minutes for bath, dress and bottle then make a ritual of some sort, we have pictures up on dd wall we say goodnight to some of her pictures give the kitty and lay her down. Depending on how much time you want to spend with her before bed depends on the order, but i wouldn't do the bath after 8:30pm. it will be a que that it is time to start getting ready for bed. Sorry long winded. [ Reply | More ]

i'm the mom w/5.5mo db above; my baby was post-colic and would not soothe to sleep except for breastfeeding (nothing else worked - rocking, singing, patting, etc) so cio unfortunately worked for us... i hate to say we did it, but we did. if db is able to be soothed to sleep with different ways (common fussy babies in weissbluth language), then i think pantley would def help (i'd read the book).. the only thing i did not like was that she herself had a 12mo who was waking every hr! i didn't really want to take advice from someone whose kid woke up 6 times a night at 1 yr of age. waking up that often at that age is very normal for non-CIOed children. Nothing wrong with that. It just shows that the authors understands what she's doing and keeps it consistent. Yes, it can take up to two years for a child to self-soothe to sleep at night. So what? [ Reply | More ]
