[ - ] How many AP classes to kids that go to competitive/top 25 colleges take? I know some schools phased AP out -- I just mean at HS where they still offer them. Like 4?5?7?9? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

you need way more than a one hour class to learn to ski. I suggest putting your 15ds in a full day group class for a couple of days and then on the last day, have him do a half day private in the morning to get personal attention to whatever he needs and then to ski by himself for the rest of that day. Where are you going? A lot of places have “ski camps” where you ski with the same 3-4 people of the same age and level for several days (typically 3-5d). Tha5s what I would do. That’s how my DH learnt to ski as an adult. One hour will do nothing for him. [ Reply | More ]

if you are 40 and need a 30 yr mortgage, the time is now, otherwise you will have a mortgage at age 80. the goal is to pay it off so your monthly expenses go down at retirement age. i dont know costs in NC, ,but they are better than NYC! i rented fpr WAY to long and regret paying off my landlords mortgage. timing counts though. people lost their houses when the value dropped and they couldnt afford the mortgage. its not the height of the market anymore, so if i had to choose today, i would buy. must stay within your means with wiggle room because if the fridge dies, YOU pay for it, etc, and you will have homeowners ins. I've made money every time I sold and my current place is an NYC condo that has gone up so much in value because the neighborhood exploded (Brooklyn) that we couldn't afford to rent it. I thinking renting is a waste of money. find a place in your budget (don't get picky about location) and buy it. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Wwyd? We are going on a ski trip over the holidays - the children ski much faster than DH and I. Then they complain that they have to wait for us. My solution was to put them in ski school for an appropriately high level so that they can ski at their pace and DH and I can do whatever we want. The issue is that the kids hate ski school and according to them the kids are all mean at ski school (this is in the Alps and they are used to American friendly faces and tone). I think it’s decadent to pay for a private instructor for them for the whole day, so I refuse to do it. What’s the solution? Make the kids suck it up and send them to ski school anyway? Fwiw, they are fluent in the local language. 61 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

When our ow 16 year old DS was 9 or so, we got separated on a run - he decided to ski through the tree line and DH and I are not that good (and we're on snowboards). We got to the bottom of the tree area (mid-mountain) and waited... and waited.... and then I waited and DH hiked back up the mountain calling for DS. Maybe 1/2 an hour later we're both freaking out, we have ski patrol looking for him. Another half an hour goes by and ski patrol tells me that he's down at the base at the info center. Apparently, he skied through the trees, waited for what he thought was a good amount of time, and then went to the bottom to wait for us. When I got there, he had his ski boots off, his feet up on the table and was drinking hot chocolate with whipped cream. "Oh, hi mom." [ Reply | More ]

I'm the slow one and DH, if not worried about aggravating old injuries, could probably hit every jump with them though he can still scorch them on a straightaway. IDK about you, but seems like you want to squelch the complaints and entitlement. Perhaps a few days of ski school, a day with an instructor, and more days skiing with you and DH. Both my kids can have bouts of entitlement, but neither would have whined too long about this lest knowing they risk being left in the lodge with no skis and no electronics. [ Reply | More ]

frankly, you are NOT a good candidate for an affair and this is a compliment. Someone who has to plan out how to do it before you even do it, is either a troll, or really stupid and will get caught. DH here: not judging but "always" in your reply means your marriage was never "complete" - why? What is missing in your DH? Regarding "being very careful" - again, you cannot control others. Your AP can currently have exactly the same views/intentions as you but things do change. So the chance to get caught is always there. I totally get the adventure part - I was very voracious pre-marriage but now am happy to stay monogamous (the main reason being that I'd never want to have the slightest chance to hurt my DW/kids). From what I've heard, most people regret doing it (whether or not they get caught). [ Reply | More ]

I was pretty young and inexperienced. I was dating two guys and chose one as my boyfriend as I was eager to be in a relationship after not dating much before. Unfortunately the other guy stuck around as a friend which months later went to a full-blown affair. This went on for a couple more years until I broke up with my boyfriend and suddenly the other guy lost all interest when it was no longer a competition. Looking back, I should have just let myself date around. Both guys are now married, I'm in touch with my ex-boyfriend as just friends and never had any improper relationship with him but the other guy and I never saw each other again after it ended. Mine took the media test a few years ago (and got in). It's very hard to prep, but from what I can recall, you want to practice visual puzzles (like these: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/brain-workout/200903/can-you-solve-these-visual-thinking-puzzles), and watch movies. For part of the test, they showed the opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark and asked questions about it (like, what genre is this movie). There were also photography questions. It's all multiple choice. [ Reply | More ]

When skinny jeans first came out everyone thought they looked weird. Now we're used to them. Truth is they are not very flattering for most; a boot cut and higher waist is more flattering for most (higher waist flattens stomach and boot cut makes hips and waist look slimmer), but we're not used to them quite yet. But, they are very "in" so we'll all be wearing them again in the next few years. [ Reply | More ]

I will disagree about boot-cut, but that is body specific. If you are a pear shape, the boot-cut is not that flattering. And there are tons of mid- and high-waits skinny jeans now. [ Reply | More ]

No, bootcut makes you look bottom heavy. Pears need something that hugs their hips and bottom, but then slims down. That is why pencil skirts work too and high waist skinny jeans too. We also need the high waist to emphasize slim waist. [ Reply | More ]

My biggest complaint with skinny jeans is that they are too skinny! I would like to be able to wear a legging-like jean that isn't squeezing the blood out of my legs. It's really hard to find. I'm also short and hate the pooling at the ankle level that happens with many skinny jeans. Boot cut jeans look good on me, but I'm sick of the look and I feel sort of unfashionable wearing them. Going forward, I'll be looking for more skinny jeans or straight cut. [ Reply | More ]

Mid rise skinny jeans looks the best on me. I have a short torso and long athletic legs. I'm overall in decent shape but still have a stubborn post baby pooch. Mid rise skinny slims the waist and flatters my legs. And then I can pair it with a tunic top or blazer and slims the overall silhouette. [ Reply | More ]

np: you're on the leadership team. Act like a senior leader and not like a pawn in a chess game. Sounds like there's some conceivable overlap in your practice areas. Talk to the CEO about how to best partner with the new dude. What's his sphere of influence, etc. Also - might make sense to take the opportunity to reinforce the CEO's buy in of the team you're building and the structure, etc. Really no reason to be defensive. You're there to best help the company be successful. You want to understand how you can help. The goal should be the best thing for the org - not you personally. If ultimately what's best for the company and what's best for your career don't align - maybe you'll need to look for something else. But no reason at this point to think that's the case. I hate to say this but I recently noticed that there are lots of elderly people on this site. This sounds like some advice that was current in the 70s. OR: I'm 40. It's not about being submissive to Larry because he's a man. It's about being submissive to her boss because he's her boss. If indeed the boss did hire Larry to oversee OP's project, then she had better defer to Larry. Maybe she doesn't have to go so far as to say she'd be happy about it. But she should acknowledge that she's willing to do whatever the CEO wants her to do. Maybe that is old fashioned but only because somewhere along the way respect for people who've earned their authority seems to have fallen out of favor and that's not a good look, imo. It would probably be better not come home and dump. Keys go in a dish or bowl. Mail is sorted immediately or by end of day. Shopping gets put away where it belongs. The more space you give this habit the more it will take up. [ Reply | More ]
